Merry Go Round at Lagoon Park

Manufactured in 1893 by the Herschell-Spillman Company, Lagoon's Carousel, or Merry-Go-Round, is one of fewer than 170 intact wooden carousels in operation for the public today - and the only one in Utah! Lagoon has honored a commitment to keep the Carousel in good condition since its installation, and will preserve its magic for children for the next 100 years to come.

What makes the Carousel a priceless attraction is its intricate woodwork. The gifted hands and loving hearts of forgotten master craftsmen and wood carvers created each character separately over 110 years ago. These artists were highly skilled; most were European-trained. After many countless hours of carving, as well as painstaking sanding, painting and finishing, each artist produced just one unique animal, adorned with a wide range of features based on the whims of the carver and painter.
