The MAPS Air Museum is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating people about the history of aviation and its impact upon society. It accomplishes this mission by acquiring, restoring, preserving, and exhibiting the impact of aviation on the culture of man. The primary goal supporting this mission is building a permanent collection of vintage military and significant civilian aircraft, and preserving these historical aircraft in airworthy condition. We plan static, and when ready, flying displays of selected planes so that the public may learn of, and appreciate, their aviation heritage.
The Military Aviation Preservation Society was founded in June 1990. Since that time, MAPS has leased a 16,000 square foot building located next to a taxiway on the west side of the Akron-Canton Airport. This facility houses the MAPS's offices, the theatre, the display area, the Louise Timken Aviation Research Library, the museum store, and the aircraft restoration facility. We have acquired the former Air National Guard hangar adjacent to the current MAPS building and are upgrading facilities. In the future, aircraft restoration and display will be in the large hangar.
