History Lincoln Mall opened in 1973 with anchors Carson Pirie Scott, Montgomery Ward, Wieboldt's and JCPenney. The center was developed by Randhurst Corp, the same developer consisting of Wieboldt's and Carson's executives who developed Randhurst Mall and Lakehurst Mall. Wieboldt's closed in the 1980s. The mall underwent a renovationin 1993. In 1995, Sears opened in the abandoned Wieboldt's location. Montgomery Ward closed their store in 1999 and went bankrupt soon after. In 2000, JCPenney closed theirlocation in Lincoln Mall. Due to the loss of two anchors mall traffic declined and many storesbegan to vacate Lincoln Mall. On Friday, May 11th, 2012 Sears began a store- closing sale.

On June 1st, 2012 Lincoln Mall is scheduled for a court ordered sale by auction. ThePromenade at Lincoln Mall Lincoln Mall was in the process of undergoing a $115-million redevelopment in hopes of attracting more retailers to Lincoln Mall. The plan included a multi-screen movie theater and a four-lane road to connect Cicero Avenue and Lincoln Highway. To make room for the new plans some parts of the mall were demolished, including the former JCPenney and Montgomery Ward stores. In 2007 two new stores opened at the site. Target, with a 126,000-square-foot (11,700 m2) store, opened in July and JCPenney returned to Lincoln Mall with a 104,000-square-foot (9,700 m2) store in October.

Despite all of the negative reviews and statements being created about the Lincoln Mall such as it is no longer the Mall it was in the 70's or 80's. The truth of the matter is no mall or business is what is was in the 70's or 80's. We have been passed around from hand to hand and from owner to owner which some did not have this community or its residents at heart. The difference that Lincoln Mall is potraying is the fact that we know we are needed for the sake and the benefit of the neighborhoods we service and the jobs we providefor those who were fortune enough to have acquired one in today's economy.

There are still 50 stores housed within the Lincoln Mall walls todate and we are braced to fight for them as best we can as times change and futures look difficult for not only us but our patrons also. School closings, police officer reduction, firemen layoffs, teachers forced to retire, and many other scenerios facing our immediate residents and neighboring cities and villages. Yes, we prefer to put up a fight for what we believe in and for those who will soon be at the end of their financial stronghold. Anybody can throw their hands up and quit, but we believe that the survival of this establishment is vital to the financial blood flowing throughout the Village of Matteson, Illinois. When our children graduate for high school, where will they go and what will they do? When our elderly retire, what will they have to look forward too? When jobs release their workers, what will they do to support and feed their families?

Yes, we've gone through some rough trials, but we have a team installed at present willing to go the distance and withstand the obstacles for what we feel is critically important to our patrons and that is the needs of our residential consumers in this economic crunch. Even the higher gas prices means, we have an obligation to our patrons to do all we can to shorten their travel time and distance when they need to acquire items for their household or their person. Oh Yes! Shopping close to home is very warranted in todays economic pinch. Shop Lincoln Mall where our values are in more than just the values of our merchandise. We value...You!
