History

From a simple conversation between two friends, grew an organization that would save the history of their town for years to come. Over 30 years have passed since Gena Weddell and former mayor Vic Vickers, spoke about saving a Lake Jackson landmark, but the spirit of their conservation still continues.

In 1981, Ms. Weddell and Mr. Vickers met about preserving the original Alden B. Dow office building. This conversation led to the formation of a committee to save the historic building, which then led to the organization of the Lake Jackson Historical Society, later renamed as the Lake Jackson Historical Association.

The Lake Jackson Historical Association today is a private non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. The Association operates the Lake Jackson Historical Museum, Abner Jackson Plantation site and the Alden B. Dow Office Museum. The Association is dedicated to ensuring that the history of our city is preserved so that current and future generations can better understand the people, places and events that helped shape our lives.
