About Us
Kent Museum was organized in the 1960’s to preserve Kent County’s rural heritage. Local farming families have donated agricultural equipment and household items from the past. Over 200 items depict the life and livelihood of rural living. On display are antique tractors, horse drawn wagons and sleds, and household gadgets that helped the farm wife with her chores. Of particular pride is the Granary on Turner’s Creek, which was built around 1830.It is the last existing granary in Kent County and serves as a fine example of a common barn-framing system. From the Colonial period until the early 18th century, the Granary was used to store agricultural commodities until they were ready to be shipped from Turner’s Creek to ports in Baltimore, Philadelphia and even Europe. This area’s rich agricultural history is why it is known as “the bread basket of the Revolution.”
