Perched on a rocky bluff overlooking the Tennessee River, J.P. Coleman State Park offers the finest in all types of water sports. Visitors experience unmatched sailing, swimming, skiing, and fishing for Smallmouth bass in the sparkling waters of Pickwick Lake, and enjoy camping and exploring in the untamed wilderness along the banks of the Tennessee River.
Stay the Night
There are several options when it comes to staying overnight. The park offers 69 RV campsites, 9 primitive camping sites, 20 cabins (duplex style), 3 cottages, 16 motel rooms, and 3 townhouses. Facilities are located with views of Pickwick Lake.
Things to Do
A variety of recreational activities and facilities are available at J. P. Coleman State Park. Facilities for use include: visitor center and conference room, marina, boat launch, picnic tables and grills, picnic pavilions, playgrounds, swimming pool, and miniature golf. Fishing, boating, and water skiing are available on Pickwick Lake, a 47,500 acre freshwater lake.
Day Use Area
There are various recreational facilities available in the day use area of the park.
Swimming Pool: The park features a 15' x 60' foot swimming pool and a kiddy pool. A pool fee is charged. Arm bands are required. The pool is operated seasonally Thursday through Sunday 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. No lifeguards are on duty. Swim at your own risk.
Children under the age of 16 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian.
Picnic: There are several picnic areas with tables located in the park.
Pavilion: A pavilion with several picnic tables is centrally located in the park. The pavilion can be reserved for a small fee.
Children's Play Equipment: Play equipment is available for children with nearby picnic tables.
Fishing
Pickwick Lake offers 47,500 acres of fresh water for fishing and water sports. The lake is brimming with crappie, bream, catfish, sauger, walleye, and most species of bass. A Mississippi fishing license is required for all persons between the ages of 16 and 65 and may be purchased at the park office (Cash/Master Card/Visa only). For fishing licenses purposes please keep in mind Pickwick Lake spans portions of three states.
Boating and Boat Launch
Pickwick Lake is available for water sports and skiing. A boat launch ramp and trailer parking are provided for in the park. An entrance fee is charged for day use guest.
Marina
The marina features three docks (A, B, C) offering monthly rental, one covered transient dock with 10 day rental, and a daily rental covered dock. Monthly rental at Dock A, B, and C includes the slip and water only. Electrical hookups of 30/50 amp are available for each slip (Dock A, B, C). However, electrical service is provided by the local utility directly to the renter. The renter is responsible for contacting utility company and setting up electrical service.
