About Us
JET is a professional Equity theatre based in West Bloomfield, Michigan. Founded in 1989 by Evelyn Orbach with a group of prestigious theatre and community leaders, JET was established with the mission “to produce theatre of the highest professional standards and to provide a stage for the exploration of ideas that confront issues of humanity and community from a Jewish perspective. Jewish Ensemble Theatre serves as a force for Jewish continuity, a platform for new voices, and a bridge of understanding to the general community."
JET has been named an Anchor Organization by the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs. Anchor organizations are recognized as major arts institutions with the capacity and the mission to implement multi-level programs, acting as hubs of significant arts and cultural activity. JET was acknowledged by MCACA for its outreach programs, particularly for those geared to school children. JET is one of three Oakland County organizations, along with the Detroit Zoo and Cranbrook, to receive this prestigious recognition.
One of only two professional equity theatres in Oakland County, JET produces on its main stage both award-winning plays and plays making their world premiere or their pre-Broadway debut. JET’s Youth Education Services – JET/YES. - is an educational outreach initiative developed for school-age children that has reached over 500,000 youngsters.
