Mission Statement for the Jayhawk State Theatre Organ

Often the education, compassion and care for its fellow man and the habitat define a society and its upcoming generation. These features of civilization are shaped and molded by young people's exposure to the world, to science, to religion, to a loving environment and by exposure to the arts.

Music is no less a major factor in rounding out the basic elements of a young person in this and virtually every culture on earth. It is our goal to broaden the horizons and preserve a rich art form by exposing our youth, community and region to the beauty, versatility and uniqueness, which is the theatre pipe organ.

WHEREAS the Jayhawk State Theatre of Kansas is committed to install a theatre organ of great stature and replicate the mighty instruments that were so prevalent in the 1920's and 1930's for reproducing the variety of orchestral sounds for accompanying silent films and

WHEREAS the great instruments are being lost to time and destruction and

WHEREAS the Jayhawk State Theatre of Kansas is committed to its involvement of historical preservation and education,

The Historic Jayhawk State Theatre of Kansas pledges and strives

TO restore a theatre pipe organ and install it into the theatre for the posterity of the community, maintained in a manner befitting of its purpose

TO begin education of our youth to the musical and historical purpose of the instrument and expose them to frequent young peoples' concerts, workshops and hands-on experiences with the Unit Orchestra

TO encourage and foster interest in the revival of the lost art form of theatre style music and organ playing from the 1920's to present day

TO work diligently with teachers of keyboard and other musical instruments on programs that allow their students to touch, play, develop and grow to love the theatre organ as a broad base of their musical education

TO develop outreach programs of musical education centered on the theatre organ to children in areas of our community that may never be exposed otherwise to this genre and era of instruments

TO keep an open-console policy to our young people, educators and performers so we may always intensify their interest and curiosity and continue to grow the love of music in everyone's hearts.

WE COMMIT these goals to the youth of our community, our region and our State.
