About Us:
Jay "janky":
Head Brewer/Co-Owner, director of sales and marketing, decent human, beer-obsessed
Shawn "ox"
Head of Engineering Operations/Co-Owner, director of equipment and building research, great guy, German beer nerd
Short Story: We're two beer geeks who are passionate about craft beer and want to brew great beers to share with the brewing community.
Longer version: WTF Is "Janky Ox"? Well, those were our nicknames in college, but when trying to come up with a name for the brewery that wasn't already taken, we had the epiphany that it also suits us very well.
We are "janky" in the sense that we are fun-loving, comical guys that try not to take things too seriously. We are also self-proclaimed masters of finding shortcuts to DIY projects, as opposed to just dropping thousands of dollars on custom-fab. In addition, we are stubborn as an "ox" when it comes to quality. We will dump a bad batch of beer, and eat the costs, before we serve it to our beer drinking friends in the community. We do not skimp where it counts, and while we can laugh and joke within our industry, we strive to make the best beers we can at all times.
We understand that there is always more to learn, and we are eager to do so - whether that is a new style, new technique, new equipment, or simply sharing some amazing beers with friends and other brewers for "research" purposes. We chose the name "Brewing Project" because we believe that great beer is always an ongoing project, just like any other passion in life. We will consistently strive to bring the best beers possible to Washington.
We love our community, and have been humbled by the support we've received since starting this venture. We aspire to return that love to the community through various outlets, be it charity work, donations, or even just purchasing locally-sourced ingredients. We believe that where you spend your dollar matters, and that is why we try our best to keep ours within the community that has been gracious enough to support us. We work with local brewers (homebrew and commercial), farmers, distillers, and wineries as often as possible to support a growing community in WA state.
We hope to provide the craft beer enthusiasts of Washington with top quality brews, but more importantly, we look forward to meeting as many of you as possible and sharing this project with all of you!
Feel free to interact with us via email, or social media. We are quick to respond, and love hearing your feedback!
