Richard Boyles and Pamela Frye planted Chalice Vineyard at Iris Hill from 1996 to 1998 on what would become their family's estate. Located in the Lorane Valley, 20 minutes southwest of Eugene, OR, the vineyard is ideally situated in the cool climate of the Oregon Coastal Range foothills, allowing the grapes to mature slowly while maintaining the proper acid balance that is essential for producing the finest Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay. In 2004, Arpad Walker took over management of the vineyard and oversaw its expansion over the last decade. In addition to our own vineyard, we have entered into long term relationships with some of Oregon's finest growers allowing us to increase production, the number of varietals, and meet the growing demand for our wines.
The first vintage under the Iris label was produced in 2001. After several vintages and varietals received 90+ points from Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast, and others, we opened our own winery in Cottage Grove, OR. Aaron Lieberman joined Iris for vintage 2008, the first to be produced in this new facility.
The newest addition to Iris is the opening of our estate tasting room located at Chalice Vineyard. With the vineyard expansion, additional capacity added by the winery, and newly opened tasting room, Iris Vineyards will continue to expand distribution into several states and increase production to meet the ever growing demand for our award winning wines.
