Houghton Lake Area Historical Society

Houghton Lake's Historical Playhouse is a fine example of early 20th Century Dance Hall design. Built in 1927 as the Johnson Rustic Dance Palace, the Playhouse served for many years as the entertainment center for the area. But after the late 196-'s it was left  abandoned and left in disrepair

In 1990 Playhouse was sold to the Historical Society  for an nominal amount by the Houghton Lake Chamber of Commerce and was renovated and repaired. It has been used since that time  for many events including live plays, musical concerts, community events, weddings, family re-unions and much more. The playhouse has regularly scheduled events,  and can be rented for weddings and other private parties. If you are interested in renting this hall please contact
