About Us:
High Rock Winery started as an experiment for Cindy Sterner in 1999. Her persuit to find a sweet wine locally was frustrating, so Cindy decided to persue it herself. As she made her first batch of apple wine in 1999, she was both excited and tentative about the success. As she opened the bottles in 2000, after the process of aging was complete, she was amazed! The wine making continued and by 2006 she found herself taking Highrock Winery to the public!
High Rock is the name kids used in the early 70's as a meeting place in the Pigeon Hills to meet and socialize. This area is a large rocky cliff that marks the highest point in the Pigeon Hills. Eventually this became the name of the road leading to and from this particular area. At the highest point three roads intersect....High Rock Road, High Rock Road North, and High Rock Road West. High Rock Winery is located Just steps form this intersection. This is how the name of High Rock Winery was conceived.
Cindy Sterner is the owner and "winemaker" of Hign Rock Winery. When starting her experiment she started with one gallon of apple wine. After waiting a year for it to age, she decided it was time for a taste. She soon came to realize that everysingle bottle that she opened was better then the first.Over the following 6 months she decided she would try another. Since her brother grows the absolute best strawberries and graciously offered her enough to make another batch of wine, it would be her next attempt, and again it was successful. She then decided she should keep making wine since finding a sweet wine to her liking was difficult.
