Henry Hamel lived on Wooster Street Seymour. He had two sisters , Helen and Muriel. Helen was a teacher in Seymour and Muriel worked at Seymour Trust Company for years. Neither sister ever got married. Both sisters pre-deceased Henry.
Henry left his house on Wooster Street to the Land Trust. We sold it and received about $100,000. This provided the funds to build the environmental building. Fred Stanek was his attorney. He left approx. $1,000,000 to charity for the Seymour Library and Seymour Historical Society. Ann Conroy was the realtor. Judge Flynn was the nearest relative we know of.
Today the Environmental Center is used for a host of activities including land trust meetings, veterans groups meetings, birthday, graduation and anniversary parties, weddings, storage for land trust equipment. It is the center of all special events put on at the land trust. It can be rented by land trust members for a nominal fee.
Our current membership drive will enable expansion of the center to store additional equipment including machinery purchased by the land trust.
