About the Museum:
Henry F. Hauser Museum founded in 2000 is named for Henry “Hank” Hauser, former college football star, avid golfer, career soldier, city council member and city magistrate, school board member and former mayor of Sierra Vista.The museum experience visual and artistic stories through permanent and changing exhibits, special programs, and events. Featured subjects have included, “Sierra Vista Then & Now,” “Unity Through Cultural Heritage,” and “Brown Canyon Ranch – A Centennial Celebration!”
The museum collects and preserves a variety of paper materials, including photographs, periodicals, school year books, journals, letters, business and personal papers, maps, and documents related to the history and functioning of local city government. In addition to library and archival materials, the museum also collects artifacts associated with local history, business establishments, water, and ranching. Noted collections include the Henry F. Hauser Collection and the James Rice Photograph Collection. Researchers may have access to these library, archival, and artifact collections.The museum continues to expand its Oral History Collection which includes noted local individuals of the area as well as those who realize the importance of maintaining a living history legacy. Transcripsts and copies of tapes are available to researchers and those interested in learning about this unique area from those who lived it.
Mission:
Henry F. Hauser Museum mission is to collect, document, preserve, interpret, research, and disseminate knowledge about natural and cultural material from the Greater Sierra Vista Area, to include the rural areas of Southeast Arizona, the Southwest, and other regions related by natural history, heritage and climate.
