After a successful career in the visual effects industry (follow this link to see his film credits), Thane Hawkins decided it was time for a change. Suffering from a strong case of wanderlust, in 2001 he packed his bags and headed north to Oregon. Having spent many weekends kicking around Napa developing his appreciation for quality wine, Thane was immediately attracted to the Willamette Valley and its signature Pinot Noir.

Thane began teaching to make ends meet, and in his spare time began making wine out of his home. His early mixed results verified his passion for wine, and he set out to get professional hands-on experience. After working harvest at Wine By Joe, in 2007 Thane was hired by Chris Lubberstedt of Methven Family Vineyards as assistant winemaker. It was while working for Methven that Thane was presented the opportunity to produce a small quantity of his own wine. And thus, Hawkins Cellars was born.
