Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park is a fascinating world of active volcanism, biological diversity, and Hawaiian culture, past and present.

HawaiÊ»i Volcanoes played an important role in the history of the Hawaiian Islands. It is in this park where you can see the first airfield ever built on the island in 1923, as well as the only remaining factory where pulu was harvested and processed for export to California in the 1840's. In the 1930's Hawaii Volcanoes was host to a camp for the Civilian Conservation Corps. You can see evidence of the great work the CCC did throughout the park. The scars of World War II can be seen in areas used for bombing practice and to house POW's at the KÄ«lauea Military Camp.
