HCLT is proud to contribute in many ways to the good of our community. For many years, we have awarded scholarships to several graduating seniors through the Dot Crews Memorial Scholarship Fund. All money we make from the sale of concessions at every production goes into this fund. Traditionally, we award multiple scholarships yearly, based on applications which can be found in the guidance department at HCHS. Students who have participated in HCLT productions and HCHS productions, both on stage and back stage, are encouraged to apply.
In addition to awarding scholarships, HCLT often partners with other organizations in our community. Recently, we have partnered with Hunters for the Hungry, MS Research, and Patrick Henry Boys and Girls Homes through 50/50 Raffles, dinners before performances, and raffles of popular props used in productions, including a full sized leg lamp from A Christmas Story, and an impressive "diamond" ring from Suds.
We offer daytime student performances of approriate productions for students of Halifax County and the surrounding area.
We regularly invite children in Halifax County's Foster Care Program and from Patrick Henry Boys and Girls Homes to be guests at performances we produce.
Other offerings to the community include Theatre in the Park at Constituion Square with free public performances, and Dinner Theatre experiences in local venues.
HCLT partners with The Prizeryand Parson's Bruce to provide theatre experiences to children in the community through Sleepover Theatre Camp, Summer Theatre Camp, and Kids' Kollege classes. Scholarships help to ensure that these opportunities are available to anyone interested in participating.
We support The Prizery's Summer Theatre by sharing our costumes and props and by hosting dinner for the visiting college cast members.
