56 years in the same location!
A serendipitous combination of people and events led to the formation of the Green Bay Curling Club in 1958. While driving north for a vacation, Walter Selck of Chicago, a member of the U. S. National Curling Association, passed the Brown County Veterans Memorial Arena being built near the new football stadium.
The association was looking for a location to hold the next Men's National competition.
More than 50 people responded to a notice in the Green Bay Press Gazette inviting persons interested in the possible formation of a curling club. The meeting was held in City Hall.Â
By Nov. 21, 1958, the new Green Bay Curling Club was hosting a demonstration sponsored by the Midwest Curling Association at the Arena.Â
Ten clubs sent rinks to help introduce the roaring game to area citizens. Most of the Green Bay club's members had never curled before and were themselves just learning.
Active curling with stones borrowed from the U.S. Curling Foundation began a month later and continued for the next 13 weeks in the arena. It was understood that curling was subject to cancellation for anything capable of providing the Arena with more revenue, which soon prompted the club to search for ice of their own.  In 1960, a two-sheet club was built at 781 Potts Ave. (now Mike McCarthy Way). From that beginning, the curling club has continued in the same location and has grown over the years!Â
In 1985 members renovated the kitchen, adding a bar. In 1993 the icehouse was replaced, adding a third sheet of ice along with maintenance and locker rooms. On May 15, 2004 the old clubhouse was razed and replaced. The new facility was built and up for business in two and a half months.Â
Membership is also growing. For many years, club membership hovered around 160 members but in recent years, membership has gown to over 200.
The Green Bay Curling Club has a history of good curling with outstanding curlers who have competed on the national and international levels over the years. Â
