In 1994, Minott Wessinger, the great-great grandson of brewing pioneer Henry Weinhard began construction on the Great Northern Brewery. Whitefish, Montana was chosen as the location of the Brewery for its rugged beauty and pristine water source. By 1995, Minott had completed one of the most state-of-the-art breweries, for its size, in the entire country. Designed by world-renowned architect Joe Escherick, the Brewery boasts the title of being the tallest building in Whitefish - at a whopping three stories!

We at Great Northern are proud to brew some of the world's finest lagers and ales. We're hell-bent on brewing balanced, approachable and unique beers of the highest quality.

Great Northern beers are made by way of the age-old tradition of a "Gravity -flow" brew house. The efficiency and automation of the 20 barrel brew house was made possible through the custom design work and installation of JV Northwest. The Brewery has an annual capacity of 10,000 barrels (310,000 gallons).
