About:-

Steve Bowhay started Yard Doctor Landscape in Juneau in 1984 after coming to Alaska since he was a child as a member of a commercial fishing family.  He was a well established Alaskan fisherman, even taking some jobs in the always dangerous Bering Sea before arriving in Southeast waters and taking residence in Juneau.  Originally located in a small downtown parking lot, Steve moved Glacier Gardens to its current location on James Blvd. in the Mendenhall Valley, where soon after he met Cindy Newman. The Yard Doctor found his Plant Nurse! He and Cindy married in 1988 and their family ran nursery business continues to produce the highest quality plants grown locally in Juneau.

Together, Steve and Cindy have built Glacier Gardens a into thriving local business employing around 60 individuals during peak summer season. The Bowhays have raised 6 children, all of whom have been involved in the nursery and tour operations, and are active in the community donating time and services to local non-profit organizations, namly their daughter’s high school Theatre Department.

As an extention of the couples love for nature and botanical creativity, they opened Glacier Gardens Rainforest Adventure in 1998 after years of rehabilitating a storm damaged stream that runs through their 50 acres of property. Find out more about the origination of Glacier Gardens on our History page.

Local gardeners are always confident that the purchases they make at the Glacier Gardens Nursery are of healthy and hardy stock suited to survive in Southeast Alaska’s wet environment. They also appreciate all the gracious assistance offered by Steve, Cindy, and their dedicated employees.

Many local gardeners also make sure that Glacier Gardens Rainforest Adventure is one of their first stops when showcasing Juneau’s outdoor environment.  What a wonderful way to show off the beauty of Southeast Alaska to your visiting friends and family!

Steve was diagnosed with throat cancer in October of 2007 and after surgery and radiation treatment, he is back to work creating beauty in everything he does.
