Northern Kentucky’s first state park and one of the first 10 in the commonwealth is General Butler State Resort Park. On August 12, 1931, a 300-acre tract comprising part of the old William O. Butler family farm became Kentucky’s sixth state park. Not only is the park a historic site, it is also a place of great natural beauty. This is the only spot in Kentucky that has the unique view of the convergence of the Kentucky and Ohio Rivers.

Biking
Mountain biking is available on our Fossil Trail. It's a 4.5 mile loop trail and is open from April - November. Riders must wear helmets and anyone under 16 years of age must have an adult rider at all times. Trail is rated for the skilled rider.

Birding
Birds commonly calling General Butler in the fall to winter include Canada goose, Mallard, Wood Duck, Great Blue Heron, wild turkeys, Dark-eyed Junco, White-throated Sparrow, Yellow-rumped Warbler and Wild Turkey. Birds tending to stay in the park year-round include the Turkey Vulture, Cooper’s hawk, various owls, woodpeckers, Wild Turkey, American Goldfinch, American Red-Winged Blackbird, and the Eastern Bluebird. 3. Birds of Sound: American Black Crow, Blue Jays, Rock Dove and Mourning Dove, Purple Martin, American Robin, Northern Mockingbird, sparrows, wrens and American Goldfinch. Those sunniest of small birds seen in spring to summer include Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Whip-poor-will and Tufted Titmouse.

Boating
Boat dock open Weekends only (Friday, Saturday & Sunday). Lake open year-round for non-motorized boats.

Camping
The campground offers 111 campsites with utility hookups and grills. Showers and rest rooms are available at two central service buildings and one laundry facility is available. WiFi available. Check out by 1 pm. Open year-round. Please call to reserve a site during the winter months.

Canoeing
Enjoy a day on the lake at General Butler. Rental canoes and rowboats are available weekends only (Friday, Saturday & Sunday) at the Boat Dock. No trolling motors allowed on Butler Lake at anytime. Lake open year-round for non-motorized boats.

Fishing
Bass, crappie, bluegill and catfish have been restocked in 30-acre Butler Lake. Fishing is permitted from the lake shore and from personal non-motorized boats year-round. A Kentucky Fishing License is required.\

Hiking
To stretch your legs after dinner, take advantage of two nature trails; a 1/4 mile trail between the lodge and the camping area, and a 1/2 mile loop trail in the campground.

Miniature Golf
Enjoy a game of miniature golf that overlooks the beautiful lake at General Butler. Open Weekends only (Friday, Saturday & Sunday).

Museum
The Butler-Turpin Home is located at the rear entrance to the park. The house museum embodies life at the confluence of the Kentucky and Ohio Rivers along with the military contributions of the Butler family. Built in the Greek revival style the house is a three-bay two-story structure with a commanding view of the Kentucky River Valley. The personal effects of military documents, furniture and objects bring to life a family steeped in military history.

Pedal Boating
Enjoy a day on the lake at General Butler. Rental pedal boats are available seasonally at the Boat Dock.

Picnicking
Picnic area, playground, tennis, basketball courts and shelter house are located near the historic house on the west side of General Butler State Resort Park.

Swimming
The lodge swimming pool is available for lodge and cottage guests. The Lodge Pool will remain open past Labor Day Weekend, weather permitting; but will close at 9 p.m. Current Camper Swim Times 4:00 p.m. -7:00 p.m.

Tennis
Three courts at the back entrance and one court near the lodge. Racquets can be checked out by overnight guests.
