Fairmont Park is a 110-acre tract of land located at the northeast intersection of K-177 and the Kansas River. Riley County Parks owns approximately 60 acres and the City of Manhattan owns approximately 40 acres. Another 10 acres under the river bridge was granted a highway use permit by the Kansas Department of Transportation.
In the fall of 1995, the Fairmont 2000 Park Planning Committee was formed to assist the County, City, and U.S.D. 383 create a Master Plan to guide the development of the park. The Master Plan developed for the park will guide future development in a manner consistent with the preservation of it's natural resources, while providing a valuable recreational venue for the community.
Fairmont Park is a unique riverfront site with abundant natural habitat, wide open spaces, and large trees. When fully developed, the park will be an invaluable asset which will allow the community to embrace the river and enjoy the recreational benefits such a park can offer.
Fairmont Park is used for many different activities such as disc golf, soccer, football, dog park, and recently constructed river front trail.
