Fairhaven History
Located in the heart of the pristine forests of the Sabine River Valley of East Texas, Fairhaven Vineyards has seen exponential growth from 2004 to the present and now includes over 11 acres of established vines. Surrounded by the verdant hills of East Texas, flowing with pure, sweet water, adorned with wildflowers, and blessed with a wealth of wildlife, the Fairhaven vineyard has become a statement in the art of terroir.
Fairhaven Vineyard's mission is to produce exceptional, fine quality French American and American Hybrid wines for sale in the Texas market and nationwide. Under the direction of Master Horticulturist R.L. Winters and his staff of professionals, Fairhaven has begun the pioneering effort to develop the "Heritage Series" of super hybrid wine grapes. The genetic base for this project is sourced from Fairhaven's exceptionally rare American hybrid collection. Our breeding vineyard is a living history of American hybrids that now numbers over 2000 of these extraordinary vines. In November of 2009 Lomanto became the first wine produced in the Heritage Series.
The genetic work that is currently underway at Fairhaven is geared toward the development of heat and drought tolerant, disease resistant varieties for wine production in the most demanding environmental conditions. The first series of new hybrids are expected to be released to the public in 2012.
Fairhaven has had an aggressive construction program underway to complete our winery and tasting facility by the first quarter of 2010. The new winery, parking lot, and road system is now complete and is fully operational. Still in the works is the expansion of our tasting room to provide seating for 125 persons, as well as the construction of a magnificent East Texas Spring Garden for our picnic area.
