Elberton Granite Museum

About the Museum:
Attracting more than 4,000 visitors annually, the Elberton Granite Museum and Exhibit features exciting historical exhibits, artifacts and educational displays. Three tiers of self-guided exhibits allow visitors to see unique granite products as well as antique granite working tools used in the quarrying, sawing, polishing, cutting and sandblasting of granite cemetery memorials.

Among the unique granite creations and artifacts found in the Museum is the Confederate statue called "Dutchy." This, the first statue crafted of Elberton Granite, did not please local Confederate Veterans who "lynched" him in 1900. He was toppled and buried on Elberton's Sutton Square. Records pointed to his location on the Square, and in 1982 he was carefully exhumed, and now occupies a place of honor in the Granite Museum.
