About us:
The Edith Newman Culver Memorial Museum is a town museum in Waterloo, Alabama. It features Native American artifacts, Civil War relics and some original pieces from the house’s first inhabitants. The home was donated as a museum by the granddaughter of Union soldier Joseph Marion Newman in 1995 , being one of the oldest incorporated towns in the state. The Edith Newman Culver Memorial Museum is housed in the historic Newman home, built in 1872. It was in the Newman family since 1918, and was restored in 1995. Edith Newman Culver was born and raised here. The museum was named in her memory after her husband, Ezra Lee Culver, donated the house to the citizens of Waterloo.
The Edith Newman Culver Memorial Museum features displays about the local history, since the town has a rich and colorful past. Native American artifacts, Civil War relics, and other items related to the Trail of Tears are just some examples of the items on display
