The East Shore YMCA building is a multiuse facility adapted to the times. We maintain one of the original manifestations of the Y’s mission, an 86-room residence for men. The site also houses a full-day child care facility. Our members can take advantage of a modern Wellness Center, two fitness studios, two gyms, a weight room, a Spinazium and a pool. The building also houses racquetball and handball courts and a regulation squash court. A variety of social spaces are available in which members can meet and mingle. A chapel provides space for solitude and reflection and a computer lab makes sure everyone has access to the Internet.
The current East Shore Y facility was completed in 1933. The original structure was designed in the Romanesque style, which provided the template for many YMCA buildings from the late 19th century through the mid 1930’s. Additions have been designed to provide a balance between new functionality and historic form. The virtual tour below provides ample evidence of the Y’s success in maintaining its architectural legacy while providing members with state of the art equipment and contemporary amenities.
