About Us:
The Drum Barracks Civil War Museum is a facility of the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks and the State of California Department of Parks and Recreation. The mission of the Drum Barracks Civil War Museum is to display and teach the history of the Civil War, with an emphasis on California's role in the conflict.
The Museum is dedicated to preserving, restoring, and interpreting the historical 1862 Drum Barracks Junior Officers’ Quarters building and the artifacts, collections, library, displays, and authentic Civil War memorabilia of the Museum and the Drum Barracks Garrison & Society.
The Museum provides a resource and a focus for visitors and students who seek insight and understanding of the immense impact of the American Civil War. The Museum seeks to achieve these aims through the education of people of all ages, with a particular emphasis on children, as not only the facts of the Civil War are important, but also how that historical event shaped and changed our life as a country and as individuals.
The Drum Barracks Garrison & Society is the 501(c)(3) non-profit support group for the Drum Barracks Civil War Museum. Friends of Drum Barracks is its fundraising division. The purpose of the Garrison & Society and the Friends of Drum Barracks is to support the Museum and its mission.
