Dreher Island State Park spans three islands, 348 acres and provides access to 12 miles of Lake Murray shoreline. Visitors will find recreational water activities, nature trails and some of the best striped and large-mouth bass fishing spots, all only 30 miles from Columbia. It has long been a popular location and launching spot for major, national fishing tournaments.
For overnight accommodations with views of Lake Murray, lodging reservations can be made in our park villas, or guests can camp at one of many lakefront campsites.
Fishing Information: Enjoy fishing in Lake Murray for several species of bass including largemouth and stripers, catfish, bream, crappie and yellow perch. A valid South Carolina fishing license is required.

Playground: Three playgrounds are located on the park. One near the Visitor Center, one on White Oak Lane and the third in Camping Area B.
Swimming: Swimming is permitted in Lake Murrary. The park has NO designated swimming area. All swimming is at your own risk.
Bird Watching: The purple martins can be viewed at the park from June through late Aug.
Scuba Diving: Scuba diving is permitted in Lake Murray, but the park does not have rental equipment. Please contact the park office for permit and other information if you plan on scuba diving.
Birding: Yes
Hiking Trails: From the Community Building, guests can enjoy a relaxing walk along the .25-mile Billy Dreher Nature Trail.
From shelter #7 and #8 parking lot, guests can experience a moderate 2.1-mile hike along the Little Gap Trail. In addition to these two hiking trails a .33-mile multi-use trail exits through the middle of State Park Loop. This trail is designated for bike and foot traffic only.

CAMPING
Camping Information: Two lakefront camping areas have scenic views and easy access to the shoreline of Lake Murray. Ninety-seven paved sites may be used by both RVs and tents, while 15 sites are for tent campers only.
Each site has water and electrical hook-ups and a picnic table. Many sites accommodate RVs up to 45 feet, others up to 30 feet.
All sites are convenient to hot showers and restrooms.
