Our Mission

"To promote the understanding of the science of life  to people of all ages."

History
The DNA EpiCenter, located in the Connecticut College Arboretum in New London, Connecticut, has evolved over the years.  It began in the 1970’s as the Thames Science Center with a gift of land from the College through the efforts of then Professor of Botany, Dr. Richard Goodwin.  In 1994 it continued as the Science Center of Eastern Connecticut.

In 2004, recognizing the importance of scientific literacy and the key role of genomics, the Science Center was renamed the DNA EpiCenter, Inc.  New curriculum for middle school students was designed by DNA EpiCenter staff to incorporate the newly adopted Connecticut Core Science Curriculum Framework.  Professional Development Workshops for teachers were created to support that curriculum. The DNA EpiCenter has hosted two fundraisers, with keynote addresses delivered by Dr. James Watson and Dr. Henry C. Lee, to further publicize the name of the DNA EpiCenter in the community. Volunteers were important in the transformation to the new mission and focus on DNA, forensics, and genetics.

The DNA EpiCenter, with a continuing focus on science and education, remains committed to school programs, adult education, and summer camps.
