Delray Beach Center for the Arts is located at Old School Square, The campus includes the Cornell Museum of Art and American Culture (in the former 1913 Delray Elementary building), the Crest Theatre (in the former 1925 high school building), the Vintage Gymnasium (c. 1925), The Pavilion (a state of the art outdoor performance venue), and the School of Creative Arts (located in the Crest Theatre classrooms and studios), where events, theater, exhibits and learning opportunities enrich the South Florida community.
This award-winning, nationally recognized center successfully combined historic preservation and the arts to become the catalyst for the 1990's renaissance of downtown Delray Beach. The charming Cornell Museum of Art and American Culture presents rotating local, national and international exhibits of fine art, crafts and pop culture. The intimate, 323-seat Crest Theatre presents world-class musicals, variety, Broadway cabaret with New York's hottest stars, and lectures with nationally renowned speakers. The Vintage Gymnasium is the new home of Improv at The Gym, which launches in 2013. It is also our most popular rental facility for wedding ceremonies, receptions, meetings, craft shows, and other corporate and private events.
A fairly recent addition to the South Florida art school and photography school scene is our School of Creative Arts, which is gaining a reputation in Palm Beach County and South Florida for its top quality photography classes, art classes, and (new) writing classes for beginners through master level. The School also offers a variety of children's classes, art and photography workshops and, in 2013, will introduce a new Visiting Artist Workshop Series.
The Pavilion was completed in 2002 as part of the center's master plan for expansion. The Pavilion presents outdoor concerts and hosts most of the major festivals in downtown Delray Beach.
