History
The nonprofit Del Mar Art Center was inaugurated on the upper level of the Del Mar Plaza on July 13, 2000 by Mayor Schooler . Maria Gardiner and Betty Sandbrook , co-founders, with the help of 25 local artists and many volunteers finally realized their dream of having a place where art in all forms could be promoted and fostered.
The goal of the center was to increase public exposure to good art; foster an appreciation of the arts; present art events and demonstrations as well as to provide a space for local artists to exhibit their works.
Since it's opening it has continued to realize these goals through a myriad of activities. They have been accomplished through art shows, demonstrations, educational activities , art receptions, musical concerts and literary readings, just to name a few. The Gallery, as well as many of the artists, have also contributed to charitable organizations and to the community.
The artists must be juried in, commit to work in the gallery as well as present only high quality art . They continue to promote art appreciation and foster an environment where art can flourish.
