History :
Cushing Community Theatre was created in 1991 as a non-profit 501 (c) (3) coordinating, service, and educational organization to foster, promote, encourage, and increase the knowledge, appreciation, and practice of the performing arts in Cushing, Oklahoma and the surrounding area. Contributions to the Theatre are fully tax deductible.
The Cushing Community Theatre began following Cushing's centennial celebration in 1991. Â During that celebration, a huge production depicting Cushing's 100 year history with a cast of over 200 people was staged at the baseball field. Â The performance was such a great success that the two chair persons of the show decided that Cushing needed a creative outlet and began researching the possibility of founding a community theatre. Â A group of community leaders held meetings to form the non-profit organization and to discuss funding for a community theatre. Â Local businesses pledged annual donations to secure funds for operations. Â The first theatrical performances were held in a local elementary school, the Cushing Library, a church and a former grocery store. Â Through pledges, donations and fundraisers we were able to purchase a building in downtown Cushing which had formerly housed the local OTASCO store. Â The building renovation campaign began in 1993, and in 1998 the first production was held in the newly renovated building.
Cushing Community Theatre is one of the few remaining dinner theatres in Oklahoma. Â The quality of the Cushing Community Theatre's performances is superior, offering plays and musicals that are diverse as well as culturally significant and relevant. Â Friday and Saturday night dinner performances, catered by Joseph's Fine Foods from Drumright, Oklahoma, provide an excellent meal and atmosphere for an evening out. Â Sunday matinees offer great family fun.Â
Our season generally includes plays in the spring and fall and one summer musical production. Â Performances cover two week-ends in the fall (Oct-Nov), spring (Feb-Mar) and summer (June). Â Friday and Saturday nights are dinner theatre and matinees (without dinner) are on Sunday afternoon. Â In 2007 we added a Thursday preview night the first week of production without dinner. To date we have presented 55 productions, including 13 musicals, plus children's programs and other workshop.
We invite everyone to come to a performance to acquaint you with our "theatre family." Each production is a pleasure to produce and represents a significant commitment of time on the part of the director, stage manager, actors, musicians and other volunteers who give so generously of their time and talents. Â We hope that you enjoy the show! Â We also hope that you will become a season subscriber and/or donor to our Theatre. Â We depend upon the public's support of the Theatre to continue to provide quality performances. Â Visit our website for more information about previous performances, ticket information and the opportunity to volunteer your time. Â There's no business like show business, and the show must go on! Â Come join us and enjoy yourself.
