Cobb's Creek Golf Club is site of the first public golf course in the Greater Philadelphia area and, today, houses two 18-hole layouts - "The Olde Course" and "The Karakung Course."The Olde Course is the crown jewel amongst Philadelphia's courses, having been nationally ranked as the #6 Best Municipal Course in by Golfweek Magazine. Designed by renowned course architect Hugh Wilson (architect of the famed Merion-East course in nearby Ardmore), the Olde Course is a mature tree-lined golf course that was established in 1916.Cobb's Creek has another distinction as well - it served as host to the 1928 USGA Amateur Public Links tournament and a PGA Tour event, the 1955 Philadelphia Inquirer Open.
Accuracy is a must on the front nine as the layout takes full advantage of the namesake creek, which meanders through the course and comes into play on the first six holes. The back nine is equally as challenging and is highlighted by a string of lengthy holes including the monstrous 638-yard 14th Hole. The Olde Course boasts a long list of awards and accolades and has a tremendous history as it has hosted two PGA Tour Events and has played host to countless tournament events. The course is commonly mentioned in both international and national travel publications and is noted as a "Must Play" golf course by both locals and travelers alike. The Olde Course is a living, breathing piece of golf history and is noted as a Philadelphia Landmark.
