Cliff Park ... the golf course, and surrounding countryside, became part of Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area in 2003. The Buchanan Family owned the land from 1803 until 2002. In 1900, an old farmhouse was converted into an inn and the golf course (the inspiration of Annie Felt Buchanan) was opened in 1913. With alteration through the years, the course remained a favorite with golfers while spectators watched the "Front Five" sitting on the inn's porch. Fast forward to 2013 and PGA Professional Joe Stead, who cut his teeth in the golf business at Cliff Park , signed a ten year lease to manage the golf course and property. Joe has been blessed with great staff that have been managing and bringing the course to the glory it had in times of past.THE BACK STORY: Cliff Park Golf Course has such a rich history dating back to Colonial times, with additions c.1820 by an uncle of Pres. James Buchanan. The nine-hole, wide-fairway golf course, completed in 1912, was the first course by a woman (Annie R. Buchanan designed it because women weren’t allowed on American courses). The entire property is now part of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreational Area, thanks to the generosity of Harry Buchanan, who has passed but will always be remembered. Those who take the Trail from the Pond at Cliff Park to the Cliffs will follow in the footsteps of some famous people, as these rugged cliffs were used as stand-ins for Wild West and silent cowboy movies. The flamboyant Tom Mix made cowboy movies here, and silent film stars. Walter Miller and Mary Pickford once stood on these cliffs in making the film The Informer, released in 1912.
