Our Story:

Our story is about family. . . Chateau Pomije Winery was founded by the Schumrick Family. Dr. and Mrs. Donald Schumirck had a dream to build a winery that would rival the wineries of Europe. The Shumricks planted the original vineyards. The family worked in the vineyards together . . . playing, laughing and enjoying country life together.

The Shumricks decided to build a winery and restaurant; the first step was to deconstruct and then reconstruct one of the original barns on the property to the current location. The antique barn became the Wine Room. The Wine Bar and Lakeview Room and kitchen, were constructed around the antique barn. Years later, the Grand Ballroom and adjoining kitchen were added to meet the growing need for a larger facitlity.

The Chateau Pomije Winery became renown for fine Indiana wine, great food and hospitality, and for special events to remember in the Grand Ballroom and Lakeview Room. The Shumrick Family took great pride in developing a legacy of country charm and hospitality, and caring community involvement, all rooted in deep and lasting family values.
