Ninth Street
Crisfield, MD 21817

410-968-2501

Cedar Island Sanctuary is located within the corporate limits of the City of Crisfield and contains more than 300 acres of protected wetlands. The Foundation is currently using the facility for educational purposes. The Marine Biology class of Crisfield High School is studying the plants and animals in Cedar Island Marsh. Access to the area is currently by permit only, which can be obtain by contacting The Executive Director at 410-968-2501.  No hunting is allowed on this reserve. The Crisfield Heritage Foundation has begun to focus on the three-hundred acres of pristine marsh land adjacent Jenkins Creek and Somers Cove Marina. The land acquired several years ago by the Foundation is home to abundant wildlife and a large blue heron rookery as well as unique fresh water springs amid a large salt marsh. This marsh has an interesting history and has served many purposes for the inhabitants of lower Somerset County. The reserve now has a new purpose and a new mission that will challenge our Foundation and our Partners for many years into the future.
