History:

Brevard Little Theatre's earliest beginnings date back to the 1930s. That was when Beulah Zachary, a young school teacher with a penchant for organization and direction of theatrical productions, launched the first community theater in Brevard. Becky Macfie and Alvin Moore, among others, took leading roles in some of those early BLT productions, prior to World War II.

Ms. Zachary later left the teaching profession and went  on to a professional stage managerial career in he hustling, bustling New York City theatrical world. She was successful in New York and moved on to Chicago to get in on the ground floor of an entertainment medium then in its infancy:  television. She became the producer of the very  popular Kukla, Fran and Ollie puppet show. Beulah was still doing that job when she was killed in a New York plane crash in 1959.

About Us:

Brevard Little Theatre was founded in 1935 by Beulah Zachary, a Brevard schoolteacher who later became the first executive director of an early children's TV show, "Kukla, Fran and Ollie." Its operations were suspended during World War II and restarted in 1950 under the leadership of Robroy Farquhar, the founder of Flat Rock Playhouse, the State Theater of North Carolina. Robroy served as BLT's resident director during the first decade of the group's reestablishment.

BLT is an all-volunteer community organization. It features a Youth Troupe for children and teens; and "BLT-To-Go," a road show providing on-site entertainment programs for meetings, luncheons, dinners, and parties in Transylvania and adjoining counties.

From its new home in the American Legion Hall in Brevard (55 E. Jordan St), BLT stages five regular productions per season plus additional, special presentations. The regular season runs January thru December; season tickets are available year-round.
