In 1918, members of the Bream family bought the Cashtown Orchard and then Green Ridge Farm in 1922 to begin planting apple trees. Then, in 1949, they joined Knouse Foods, a grower owned Co-operative processor.
By the 1960s, the Breams had converted all their land to apple and peach orchards. Throughout the 80s and 90s the orchards grew in acreage, production, and innovation. Jack (John III), Mark & Tom Bream have continued to expand the farm. There are now over 750 acres in apple and peach production.
In 1971 the first cold storage and packing house facility was built and has been expanded several times since then. Then in 2011, Jack, Mark, and Tom began a joint venture with Bear Mountain Orchards Inc. to build a state of the art cold storage located in Biglerville, PA. The storage is used by us and other orchards in the area in need of a cold storage facility.
Bream Orchards is committed to improving both apple and peach production in South-central Pennsylvania. We co-operate in research studies conducted by Penn State Fruit Research Extension Center to help advance fruit growing techniques and to increase knowledge in the fruit-growing industry.
