Boundless Edge Ice Dance Ensemble and Skating School

The Boundless Edge Ice Dance Ensemble

The Boundless Edge Ice Dance Ensemble is a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a non-profit arts service organization. We are a movement ensemble whose focus is the performance and creation of modern dances for the ice. Our mission is to develop and establish ice skating as a performance art in the Hudson Valley and beyond. The ensemble offers artistic skaters a performance venue for their talents while creating and maintaining a repertoire of dances choreographed by both local ice skaters and dancers.

Highlights

The Ensemble began in 2002 with a single performance held at our home rink, the Saugerties Kiwanis Ice Arena.  Since that time our performance season has grown to include performances at; Mohonk Mountain House, the New Works and Young Artists series presented by the Ice Theatre of New York, Milford Pennsylvania's and New Paltz New York's  Winter Festivals along with two annual performances at our home rink in Saugerties.  Over the years we have had incredible guest performers to name a few, Elin Schran's, Boston Ice Theatre, Katherine Healy and David Lu of The Ice Theatre of New York, Gregory Wittrock, Performance Artist and Ksenia Makarova, current Russian National champion.  Trough Mohonk Mountain House we have skated with two Olympic Champions,  Oksana Baiul and Nancy Kerrigan. We have skated to the live music of "A Perfect Gift, All that is Jazz" and set the dance choreography of local artist, clyde forth onto the ice.

This past season, we collaborated with Bond Street Theatre and Mike Carson Productions on a theatrical event that combined fire juggling, stilt walking and ice skating and we created a new work entitled The Path to Peace set to a composition by renowned New York saxophonist, Andrew Sterman.

Boundless Edge Skating School

The Boundless Edge Skating School now in it's 9th year teaches beginning students all of the Basic Skills needed to pursue a Competitive Skating career or a Performing Arts route.  Students who choose to purse a performing arts route will learn all of the skills needed to be an "ice theatre" skater.  Beginning classes teach both leg and foot skills as well as arm and head movements.  Starting at age 6 students also learn dance technique on the floor before taking to the ice.   The more advanced technique classes teach a movement language created for the ice that is based on modern dance and ballet technique.   Through creative exploration of movement students develop strong and versatile technique as well as their own authentic style.
