Boom Island Brewing Company

It all started with one beer. When Kevin Welch, our founder and head brewer, tasted his first Belgian tripel in 2001, it was a life-changing experience. "I couldn't believe how many unique flavors there were," he recalls. "They were all intricately balanced and kept evolving. I'd never tasted anything like that, and ever since then I've been obsessed with Belgian beer."

AUTHENTIC BELGIAN BREWERY-SOURCED YEASTS
Before starting Boom Island, Kevin travelled to 13 breweries across Belgium to brew side-by-side with the leading innovators in Belgian brewing. He also brought home the ultimate souvenir: nine strains of yeast from their source breweries. Today, Kevin uses several of those strains to produce the elusive qualities only found in beer from the breweries of their origin.

NATURALLY CARBONATED, LIVING BEERS
Following the Belgian tradition, all Boom Island beers are naturally carbonated and bottle conditioned. Live yeast is added just before the beer is bottled, resulting in a fresher tasting beer with flavors that continue to evolve over time.

A FAMILY-RUN BREWERY
Like many Belgian breweries, Boom Island is a family business. Kevin is the head brewer. His wife Qiuxia (pronounced Choo Sha) supervises the business and marketing side of things. Even Qiuxia's parents played a critical role, leaving their home in Chengdu, China, to help construct the brewery and fill in as needed during the initial years.
