About us:
During a difficult time in his life, Max Scudder discovered the camaraderie of the local craft beer community. He was recovering both physically and emotionally following a bad accident and began filling his days by home brewing with friends. That time with friends turned into time with the local craft beer community at large and he was hooked. To Max, it wasn't about the beer, it was about the connection with this community that was supportive, co-operative and passionate about their craft. From this, Beerded Brothers Brewery was born, and Max's mission became making great beer as a way to connect with people in the community.
Max's brothers are definitely part of the Beerded Brothers story, as well as the rest of his family and friends. He started the brewery with his step-brother, Gabriel, and they worked in tandem to get the nano-brewery to the point of supporting sales for several accounts in the Vancouver area. Today Max is the brother at the helm; he is also the last brother still sporting a beard.
The brewery's signature beer, Agave Amber Ale, was developed after Max made batches of Amber Ale with honey for his brother Adam's wedding .Guests loved it, but Max decided to try making it with Agave after watching his girlfriend Ashli add the natural vegan sweetener to her coffee. The result was a smooth Amber that you can find on tap in some of the best restaurants and bars in Vancouver.
The brewery is definitely small and local. Max has a 1 barrel system and the brewery is a well-built-out shop in his parent's back yard in Vancouver. The list of gadgets, tools and equipment made from scratch with some ingenuity and often help from his step-dad, a former engineer in the Navy, is pretty cool. Max even draws upon the woodworking skills he learned from his grandpa to hand carve tap handles.
Today you will find Max at festivals and beer events engaging as a citizen of the community he is so passionate about. He loves meeting craft beer drinkers and talking about beer and brewing. And if you're a brewery at one of those events and you need a helping hand or a wrench to fix your regulator, Max will be there eager to help. He's there fulfilling his passion, connecting with people and building relationships - which is all the more enjoyable over a great glass of handcrafted beer.
