Barley And Board

The much anticipated opening of Barley & Board, Denton's first brewpub restaurant, is coming this Summer to our historic Downtown Square. Located on the Northeast corner of 'The Square', and built in 1858, B&B resides in the location where the Lacy Hotel once stood, a hotel and livery stable that not only provided lodging, but also meals; which, by reputation, were the best that could be obtained between Dallas and Fort Worth, and the Oklahoma and Arkansas borders.

It's also where famed outlaw Sam Bass found employment as a livery stable boy before his train robbing days. The Lacy Hotel burned in 1884, and the May Building replaced it. That building burned in 1924, and the structure now known as the 'Texas Building' that you see today was built. The original brick interior walls have carefully been excavated and brought back to life to help tell the story of Denton's past, while creating an environment which the restaurant sits in perfectly. Laced with elements of reclaimed wood, distressed leathers, and industrial lighting, the space takes on a sense of place that feels rooted and authentic.

The restaurant's fare, led by Executive Chef Chad Kelley (Meddlesome Moth), will be that of a 'New American Cuisine', offering an array of small and large plates of culinary creation, while the bar will offer 30 beers on tap, including the in-house brews, and an assortment of craft cocktails and wines. Operations will be led by Eric "Emo" Hartman, an Austin implant who started the famed Emo's establishment and was most recently regional manager for Alamo Draft House.
