History:
Built in 1926, the famed Aztec Theatre, located in San Antonio, Texas, debuted as one of the most elaborate movie palaces in the country. As an architectural Meso-American masterpiece, its combination of reproduced authentic columns, reliefs, artifacts and modern accruements encouraged guests to explore all aspects of the venue-from the magnificent lobby and mezzanine, to the glorious theatre and balcony.

Over the following decades, the Aztec was home to countless movie premieres and red carpet events, but by 1984 however, years of neglect and urban decay led to its closure. But just as it seemed destined for demolition, the San Antonio Conservation Society rescued the Aztec in 1988 and by 1992, succeeded in having it listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
