Auburn YMCA-WEIU

The Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) was founded in London, England, in 1844 and the YMCA was organized in Auburn in 1859. The YMCA merged with the Women’s Education and Industrial Union (WEIU) in 1970. As a member of this organization, you are joining an establishment that is rich in history and is paving the way for productive, responsible future generations.

The YMCA owns and operates two locations in the Auburn area: the main facility in the city and Camp Y-Owasco on Owasco Lake. We also operate eight school-age child care sites in our service area.

As a dynamic community-based organization led by volunteers, the YMCA has continued to grow and change over the years to meet community needs as they arise. Today the YMCA is an organization open to all who wish to be a part of the YMCA as members, community participants, volunteers, or staff in the many programs and services offered. These programs and services include aquatics, camping, preschool, school-age childcare, family programs, health, fitness and active older adult programs, and youth sports.

In 2010, the Auburn YMCA-WEIU and the Skaneateles Recreational Charitable Trust entered into a partnership to manage the Skaneateles Community Center and started operating as the Skaneateles YMCA and Community Center on August 1, 2010.
