About the YMCA
Since its formation in 1955, the Athens-McMinn Family YMCA has been serving the communities of McMinn County. The current facility was built in 1975 and underwent renovations and expansion in 1989 with the addition of the Mayfield Aerobics Wing and Racquetball Court. In 2008 the building underwent aesthetic renovations, receiving fresh paint, signage and doors. In 2009 a "green" parking lot was added, and from 2010 - 2013 renovations were completed in the cardio room, gym, locker rooms and racquetball court. Improvements were also made to the front desk area, upper lobbies, aerobic rooms, restrooms, the pool, childwatch area, and staff offices in December 2013 to May 2014.
As of 2014, the Athens-McMinn Family YMCA involved more than 5,100 people in diverse communities. The Athens-McMinn YMCA serves a number of important groups, providing child care up to 200 children per day, teaming with public schools and private schools, and offering health and fitness programs for all ages and abilities.
Our mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. We strive to teach integrity, responsibility, honesty, and respect in everything we do. These are the core principles for our efforts to build strong kids, strong families, and strong communities.
