Mission:
To advance printmaking and book arts as vital contemporary art forms. Atelier 6000 inspires and engages diverse artist learners and audiences in educational and creative experiences.
About Us:
A Guardian of Tradition
Atelier 6000 provides access to the time honored technology of printmaking, a 15th century process using handmade type and creating hand pulled prints. We bridge the 21st century and electronic arts; we underscore the concepts of printmaking and book arts and appreciate the handmade.
Printing Green
A well-equipped studio, A6 has 2000 square feet with three presses for plate lithography, etching and monotype. Dedicated to sustainable practices, A6 prints with less toxic and “green” materials using soy-based water-soluble inks; no caustic chemicals or acids usually associated with printmaking are used during the print process.
Learning and Inspiration
Located in the Old Mill District, Atelier 6000 is a center for an energetic community of artists, working collaboratively, sharing ideas, technique and process – it’s a place for learning and inspiration; a studio-workshop where students from all lifestyles, from absolute beginners to professional artists learn directly from master artist teachers. Art workshops are open to the public and college courses are offered through COCC and Oregon State University in the open studio environment of Atelier 6000. Instructors include full-time studio artists as well as professors from colleges and universities.
Atelier 6000′s Artist in Residence Program offers hands-on art instruction and personal interaction with professional or traditional teaching artists that hail from near and far. Resident artists have training in a particular art form and draw from diverse backgrounds. The Artist in Residence Program enriches A6′s existing art education program, opens invigorating dialogue and presents inroads to learning that are creative and inspirational.
Contemporary Presentation Gallery and Exhibits
The Atelier 6000 Presentation Gallery emphasizes a 21st century multimedia approach to contemporary printmaking and book arts, while preserving and honoring reference to 15th – 21st century process. The gallery is dedicated to presenting six contemporary edge and theme-based exhibits per year. On-site and outreach classes, art talks, lectures, demonstrations and educational workshops facilitate creative and interpretive experiences that enrich artists, the community and the region.
