About us
Artspace was founded in 1973 by parents who wanted more in-school and out-of-school arts experiences for their children. Artspace's mission is to encourage and nurture the appreciation of and participation in the arts by offering programs and instruction; and by advocating the importance of the arts in education and in the community. Our gallery, art and music programs, special events and performances in our home at 15 Mill Street, Greenfield attract many people from Franklin County and beyond.
Artspace serves 350 students annually with weekly lessons and classes at our own facility, and through outreach programs. Approximately eighteen percent of our students receive financial aid.
This year, Artspace will continue The Neighborhood Project. We will offer tuition discounts to our Mill Street neighbors and the 2 neighborhood schools. Mill Street Art Works Studio Tour will be held December 2 and 3, noon to 4 p.m. Our goal is to get to know as many of our neighbors as possible and to involve them in the arts. To date, The Neighborhood Project is supported by the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts.
This year, Artspace will focus on its neighborhood through The Neighborhood Project. We will offer a series of workshops, exhibits and classes for Artspace's Mill Street neighbors and the 2 neighborhood schools. We will work with with those artists who live or work in the neighborhood to mount a group exhibit in April and an Open Studio
Weekend in December. Our goal is to get to know as many of our neighbors as possible and to involve them in the arts and neighborhood celebrations. To date, The Neighborhood Project is underwritten by Mowry & Schmidt, Inc. and the Xeric Foundation.
Artspace is supported by funds from the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts, W. Bret Hester Memorial Scholarship for Guitar, Xeric Foundation, Rice Family Foundation, local businesses and many individuals who annually contribute to Artspace.
Artspace is supported through its Annual Fund by hundreds of individuals and businesses who believe in our mission and want to make sure that our cultural education programs are available in Franklin County.
