As With Any Professional Dance School In The World, Our Staff Follows A Certain Curriculum. Strict Classical Ballet Is Not Taught Before The Age Of 7. This Is To Ensure That Both Developmentally And Structurally A Child Is Prepared For The Rigors Of Classical Ballet. We Do However, Introduce Certain Steps And Terminology From Age Three To Six.
At Three And Four Years Of Age, Dance Basics, Jump And Jive And Tap, Ballet Combo Classes Offer An Introduction To Basic Positions And Steps That A Child's Body And Mind Can Handle And Retain. Classes Are Set To Age Appropriate Music. Children Truly Enjoy Themselves While Learning In A Non-Pressured Environment. With Positive Reinforcement, Each Child Progresses At Their Own Pace. Emphasis Is On Coordination, Motor Skills, Listening Skills, And Classroom Procedures.
At Five And Six Years Of Age Jazz, Tap And Hip-Hop Is Introduced As Well As Additional Ballet Technique. The Environment Becomes A Bit More Serious, With Proper Behavior And Discipline Stressed. However, The Children Are Still Enjoy Themselves And To Form A Love For The Art Of Dance.
From Seven Years Old On, Our Classes Take On A More Serious Note. While Enjoying Themselves, The Children Are Encouraged To Master Skills That Build Strength, Coordination, Grace, Flexibility And Balance. All Classes Begin With A Warm-Up Including Floor Exercises. Class Continues With Combinations That Travel Across The Floor And Culminate With A Short Dance Combination. Creative Movement Is Also Included And Explored Allowing Students To Express Themselves Thru Dance. At The End Of The Year All Classes Perform A Dance In Our Annual Recital.
Each Year The Curriculum Becomes More Advanced. Each Child Advances At Their Own Pace Depending On Talent, Hard Work And How Many Times Per Week They Dance. Armonk Center For Dance Takes Pride In Catering To Dancers Who Just Want To Learn And Have Fun As Well As Those Who Want To Make Dance A Career.
