The Tiger Theatre is the educational theatre facility located on the campus of Arlington High School. The theatre houses state-of-the-art light and sound equipment and all of the expected amenities: dressing rooms, costume and prop storage, and a full functioning scene shop. The theatre will produce three to four main stage shows during the academic year: a musical, a comedy, a drama, and a competition one-act. The theatre will also host local entertainments in venues such as band and choir concerts, a Mid-South Fair preliminary Youth Talent contest, and local musician’s concerts. In order to ensure the highest quality entertainment and the best educational theatre opportunities, the Arlington High Theatre Arts program has created the Friends of Theatre. The Friends Of Theatre acts as a support group for the AHS Tiger Theatre and the AHS Thespian Club. This organization consists of parents, friends, teachers, and other members of the community that would like to be involved in the establishment of high quality theatre in Arlington. Members will help the program by participating in a wide variety of tasks – from helping sell ads for the programs to selling concessions at intermissions; from aiding the students in building and painting sets to sewing costumes. The AHS Thespian Club is the drama club at Arlington High. The AHS Thespian club has recently become a member of the International Thespian Society, a society that has member schools all over the world. Through membership in our local club, students can earn points toward individual membership into the International Society. The Thespian Club is represented by members of all races, creeds, colors, and sexes. The Thespian Club is an organization for the appreciation of theatre. Students don’t have to be actresses or actors to join. Students don’t even have to want to do technical work. All we ask is that students share a love for good live entertainment, especially theatre. Club members will enjoy making several trips to other high schools, colleges, and professional theatres such as Playhouse on the Square and the Orpheum Theatre to see shows and presentations. FILM & VIDEO students at Arlington examine the areas of film and TV production from historical, theoretical, and practical applications. The study of film as literature and film evaluations are emphasized. Students receive hands-on instruction with film and video equipment. In 2007 we will open a fully functioning TV studio. Arlington High Students also have the opportunity to attend and compete in local and state theatre tournaments. The school is a member of the Tennessee High School Speech and Drama League (THSSDL).
