History:
Argosy V, Kansas City's first riverboat casino, opened in June 1994 and welcomed guests for two-hour gambling cruises along the Missouri River. The vessel offered video poker and table games including blackjack, craps and live poker.
In 1996, a large Mediterranean Seaport themed, land-based pavilion was built with 85,000 square feet that featured Mediterranean Seaport decor, including palm trees, stucco walls, imported floor tiles and a multi-storied glass-enclosed rotunda. The new space included a fine dining restaurant, buffet, sports bar, banquet space and a parking garage.
In 2003, Argosy went through another transformation with its $105 million Mediterranean village-theme renovation. The 62,000 square-foot structure doubled the size of the gaming floor on the Argosy IV and had 1,700 coinless slot machines, 40 table games and nearly 50 plasma screen televisions. For building the Midwest's completely themed casino, Argosy was recognized by the American Gaming Association for best architectural redesign in 2005.
In June 2004, Argosy announced plans for a $75 million expansion project that included a 1,200 space parking garage and nine-story luxury hotel and day spa. Argosy broke ground in June 2005 on the 258-room luxury hotel and day spa. The new hotel was to offer amenities including a modern fitness center, business center and spa. This renovation also added meeting space.
